Home...Kamloops,BC

Arrived home this afternoon.   Drove through a heavy rainstorm and now the car is really clean! 🚗
Mother's day flowers from Daniel and sports already on the tv.
Another trip next week. Driving north .

Grand Coulee Dam

The lake (Roosevelt on the  Columbia ) is a  it low and not much overflow but interesting none the less.  Years ago my daughter  Christine and I watched a lazer show on the dam. They let some water run over to make a white screen.  It was a very patriotic American production but interesting.

Open pit copper mine

Butte,Montana. ...couldn't believe my eyes as we drove out of the mountain pass and into the valley.  Closed since 1982 but still a huge impact. At one point houses were destroyed in order for the mine to expand.

The Battle of Little Big Horn

Custer's Last Stand
Stopped here this morning and drove through the battlefield.   It's very sad to think that Custer was ordered by the president to  move all the Indians so the white settlers could farm in peace.   They were marching 7000 men, women and children from several different tribes. They were supposed to live on one reservation whether they were from the same tribe or not.  Anyway it seems that after all these years , people finally realize what was actually happening.

Where the deer and the antelope play. ...

Wyoming.  Pronghorns seen all around this morning.  We probably saw hundreds but unfortunately none close enough for a picture. There are some in the second picture!

Rest stops and welcome

Wyoming welcome centre with 50 million year old petrified wood.  Wyoming was once a swamp.Lots of coal here.
South  Dakota  rest stop with stylized teepee.
All picnic tables come with a windbreak.

Mount Rushmore and Sturgis

Drove through the Black Hills to Mount Rushmore. How did I not realize that no one could have carved all that. 90% was done by strategically placing dynamite!
Drove through Deadwood but there was so much road  construction that it was impossible to stop.
Sturgis was a quick drive through and a picture. It's ready quiet this time of year.

Mitchell,South Dakota

Home of the world famous corn palace since 1937.  They change the theme a day murals every year  Free admission.

Iowa. ...might have taken over as my favorite state👍

What a gorgeous day in Iowa. ...started out gloomy but once the sun came out it was wonderful. Green rolling hills, trees and farms.  The highway was red coloured. Tonight thunderstorm warnings but only got a rainbow.   On our way to the badlands of South Dakota in the morning.

Pennsylvania, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa

One day drive...thru the northern part of Indiana. ...saw the Amish men ploughing fields with their teams of workhorses.   South of Chicago the route was busy but manageable. ...glad we decided to go around. Then a beautiful drive over the Mississippi and into Moline,Iowa where we spent the night in a hotel by the river.

the Mississippi River.

Trilliums

The flower of Ontario...so nice to see them blooming in the woods of Kingsmere. Also  a group of rocks placed in an oval shape called Anne's mirror.

Gatineau parkway and Kingsmere

Beautiful drive on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River.  Mackenzie King who was Canada's prime minister for 22 years used pieces of old buildings to make ruins at his estate. He wanted to make a peaceful, inspiring place for the people of the country he loved and served.

Beechwood Cemetery. ...Canada's Military Section

Went to the cemetery this morning to see where my mom and dad were laid to rest.
It was a beautiful spring morning, the tulips blooming and the leaves on the trees starting to grow.  What a lovely place my dad chose and they are at rest with other military couples. I will share a few pictures.

Locks at Smith's Falls

Stopped at the National heritage centre in Smith's Falls.   It was a beautiful day and we had a nice walk around. There are locks there for the Rideau canal.

Kingston to Ottawa,along the Rideau

Did some looking around Kingston where lots of buildings are made of limestone and the rest are brick.    Looked at the hospital I did my nurses training at and the residence I lived in.

Also saw some tulips...seems like the spring is about 5 weeks later than Kamloops.

North Bay to Kingston

Drove through Algonquin Park today.   First time I have been there.  When you say that you're from Ontario people often ask about the park.  Didn't see any animals only beautiful lakes. A Moose ran across the highway later on.

Also saw plastic barriers along the sides of the highway and Dave told me the used them at the mine to stop frogs from crossing the road.
.When I got out to take a picture I saw a white tail deer in the marsh.

This is like one of those tests...can you spot the deer.?
